Roswell

This was a date for financial news. In 1889 the first edition of the Wall Street Journal was published. In 1932 the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached its lowest point in the Great Depression as it closed at 41.22 . This is in contrast to the controversial apparent sighting of a UFO landing at Roswell NM in 1947 and the genuine acceptance by the US Air Force of its first female recruits for a program called the Women in the Air Force, WAF in 1948.

The man who gave us Coca-Cola, John Pemberton, was born in 1831. He created it in 1886 but then gave away the patent rights just before he died in 1888. The founder of the Zepplin airship company, Ferdinand von Zepplin, was born in 1838. The writer who detailed for us the 5 steps of grief, Elizabeth Kubler- Ross, was born in 1928. And the man who got us started on six degrees of separation, Kevin Bacon, who also got us Footloose dancing and left us panting for breath, took his first breath in 1958.

The English romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley put down his pen in 1822. Former First Lady Betty Ford passed on in 2011. And two former world leaders – Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe and former Mexican President Luis Echevarria both passed off the world stage in 2022.
