In 1850 the US Congress establishes the Government Printing Office,and 18 years later Christopher Latham Sholes received a patent for, an invention he called the “Type- Writer” which I am sure helped in their work. Later on in 1926 the College Board administered the first SAT test, back to pencil and paper.

In 1887 Canada established its first National Park, at a beautiful mountain location called Banff, a place that I had the privilege of visiting with my family as a kid.In 1894 the International Olyanmpic Committee was founded in the Sorbonne in Paris at the initiative of Baron Pierre de Coubertin. And in 1972 Title IX of the US Civil Rights Act of 1964 was amended to prohibit sexual discrimination to any educational program receiving federal funds.

British mathematician Alan Turing was born in 1912. American dancer and choreographer Bob Fosse began his ascent towards the dance floor in 1927. And Civil War historian Micheal Shaary was born in 1928 but wrote amazing tales of events that happed a full three quarters of a century before his birth , like the Killer Angels, the story of Gettysburg.

Today was also the birth date for three singers – country star June Carter Cash (1929), Journey-man and Idol judge Randy Jackson (1956), and modern crooner Jason Mraz (1977).

We bid farewell to American biologist and physician Jonas Salk (1995) who gave us the polio vaccine, American actress Maureen O’Sullivan (1998), producer Aaron Spellinng (2006), and Columbo (and Princess Bride narrator ) Peter Falk (2011).
