Sound is one of the five senses we use each day to communicate and interact with others. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing, however, as environment noise can easily reduce your ability to hear even as an adult. Reducing your exposure to unnecessary noise can go a long way.
A study that was released showed that the new generations of the human species will experience more extreme hearing loss. This has been attributed to the rise of MP3 players and music in general. Because devices such as the iPod have been in wide circulation, and are constantly used, wear and tear is being conducted on the ear buds every single day. It’s recommended the volume be kept to a minimum.
Out of all the places you would think you would receive hearing loss, your job may not be one of them. Even when working at a seemingly steady job at a restaurant, you would constantly be exposed to background music, loud talking, and the general hustle of the staff. When you come home and finally rest, you may even notice there is a ringing in your ears!
The environment in terms of sound can contribute to hearing loss- but so can your hygiene. Having a bad sense of hygiene can lead to infection, as in the case of not thoroughly cleaning out your ear canal on a regular basis. Not doing so will contribute to an excess of ear wax, which can attract bacteria and eventually lead to a painful sickness of the inner ear. It’s not just painful, it damages your hearing!
Active protection of your hearing isn’t always possible. Sometimes you have to learn through trial and error what your body can handle. The first few times you go to a loud concert and notice your hearing degrading, you should make the smart decision to use ear protection. Better yet, take the good advice to use hearing protection even when going to your first concert!
It is unfortunate that much of the damage being done to our youth is done through current fads. Going to a popular concert and wearing ear protection while no one else is could be socially awkward.Take the initiative to have confidence in yourself, and to respect your body, by using an ear plug to drown out any unnecessary sound from the environment.
Final Thoughts
Hearing aids are available if you think you have been subject to the damages caused by loud environment sounds. Over the decades, the loss of hearing just comes naturally- sooner or later we will all need at least some form of hearing amplification to get by.
